    Hi guys,

    a) How do I get rid of the excerpts that appears below each title post in the main page feed? Be default it’s 30 words long and I can only bring it down to 10.

    b) How do I change the “Read More” into a different text, since my page is more about photography and has almost no text.

    c) Is it possible to remove the “Read More” for select posts, so that clicking on the featured image links to an outside website?

    Thanks!

    Hello zAzq,

    a) You can get rid of the excerpts on archive pages (such as the front page if it’s set to display recent posts) by using the following CSS code:

    .post-card .entry-excerpt {display: none;}

    You can insert custom CSS with this plugin. Once you install and activate it, in your Admin Panel please go to ‘Appearance’ > ‘Custom CSS’, paste the above code and save.

    b) Read more is a part of the excerpt. If you hide the excerpt the ‘read more’ button (or whatever you want to call it) will be gone too. If you still need to have the button, you’d need to custom-code the templates, which is not part of the included support according to ThemeForest rules. I would actually say that there does not seem to be a lot of sense in displaing ‘read more’ without the excerpt.

    c) I’d use a plugin for that. E.g. this one.

    if you enjoy the theme (or the support), I would really appreciate if you could rate it on ThemeForest. This literally takes a moment and helps a lot. Thank you.

    Regards,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

    a) Thanks! That worked.

    b) Do I need to use custom code to change the text “Read More” to something like “View”? I’m trying to avoid excerpts as it seems to make a mess of short sentences by putting it in one line. Also, it’s a more photograph-driven site I’m putting up, so the texts are mostly peripheral.

    c) Will look into that. Thanks!

    I just did rate it earlier! 5 stars. Really great work on the theme. Been waiting for a theme like this for quite some time. =)

    Hello zAzq,

    b) Please mind that the read more button is part of the excerpt. So if you hide the excerpt (as described in a.), you will also hide the read more. As for changing the text, you can do that by going into the functions.php file in your theme folder and changing the ‘read more’ text in these lines:

    (around line 364)
    <a class="more-link ghost-button-link" href="<?php echo get_the_permalink(); ?>"><?php echo esc_html__("read more", "mauer-essentialist") ?></a>

    (around line 395)
    <a class="more-link ghost-button-link" href="<?php echo get_the_permalink(); ?>"><?php echo esc_html__("read more", "mauer-essentialist") ?></a>

    Basically, these lines:

    A little disclaimer: It’s best to do such modifications in a child theme, so they do not get overwritten during theme updates. However, of course you can always re-introduce them after a theme update.

    It’s great to know that you like the theme! Thank you.

    Regards,
    Paul
