    Hi, I apologize in advance if this is something of a general question unrelated to your theme, but since I cannot tell, I am trying my luck. My current homepage consists of menu, welcome post/or page and footer with widgets.

    My goal is to have either just social media feeds, or square titles with links to categories on hompeage instead of one big post/page title field followed by content (this layout is fine for categories and posts, but for me it takes too much space on the homepage).

    So my question is: 1) Is it in any way possible NOT to have post or page on homepage and instead specifically edit the homepage, or 2) If I always need to display post/page on homepage, can I somehow remove that big box with title just for homepage?

    Thanks
    Ondrej

    Hi Ondrej,

    What you can do to not have the blog first post on the front page is use one of the layouts that do not have it. For instance, your front page could look like this, or like this.

    This is controlled in Theme Options which are found in your Admin Panel (see the checkbox on the right):

    You can also create a new page (not a post) and set it as the front page. There you can just link to categories or create the social feeds with some sort of a plugin. So this way you would have your front page display categories/social feeds. However this may turn out to be much harder in terms of making this whole thing look good.

    You could also create a separate template for the tiled categories that you described. However that would require custom development. Please mind that customizations are not part of the support according to official ThemeForest policy. I could do that for you outside the support at my regular rate.

    However, if you ask me, I’d say that it’s good when a user comes to your blog from time to time and they see something new at the top (new posts) instead of a static list of categories that is always the same. Also, a catchy blog post heading can generally exist. And a catchy list of categories seems to be much harder to imagine.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

    Thank you Paul. OK, I think I understand. Is it any way possible to set different amount of posts shown on homepage (for example 3) and in categories (eg. 10)?

    Also, for some reason posts that are shown “big (Make the first blog post big)” are aligned to left, rather than center.

    thanks

    Hello Ondrej,

    To have a different number of posts on your home page you can use the following code:

    function change_number_of_posts_on_home_page( $query ) {
    		if ( $query->is_home() && $query->is_main_query() ) {
    				$query->set( 'posts_per_page', 3 );
    		}
    }
    add_action( 'pre_get_posts', 'change_number_of_posts_on_home_page' );

    You can change the number 3 there to anything you like. All the other archive pages will display the number of posts you set in Settings > Reading in your Admin Panel. And the front page (if it’s set to display your latest posts), will have the number you set in this code.

    It’s a good idea to place this code in a plugin/child theme — this way you won’t have to add this code again after each theme update. However it will also work if you place it in the functions.php of Storyteller (at the very end, just above the ‘?>’).

    As for the Big latest image being shifted, please post a link to your website so I could take a look at the issue.

    Thank you,

    Paul

    Hi Ondrej,

    It’s great to know you’ve sorted it all out, and that my replies were of help.
    If you enjoy the theme (or the support), please don’t hesitate to rate it on ThemeForest. This literally takes a minute, and helps a lot. Thank you

    Kind regards,
    Paul
