    Hi Paul,

I wanted to see if I would be able to create a blog page that would not select all of my posts. I want to be able to individually select which posts I want to put on the blog. For instance, I only want those that are in the category ‘written-works’ to be on the blog. Is this possible?

    Thanks!

    Hi Jon,

Your blog page will always show all of your published posts unless you apply some sort of a filter (e.g. “pre_get_posts”). This is just how WP works and is not related to the theme.

What you can do is put all the posts that you want shown in a special category. And then put that category address on the menu as a custom link. So let’s say you could create a category called ‘X’, and then put ‘/category/x’ on the menu.

Or you could keep all the posts that you don’t want to be published as drafts.

Or you could post them as pages (not posts) and just not show links to them anywhere.

May I ask why exactly you want to manually select posts that should appear on the blog page, and what’s the point of having posts that are not on the blog page?

    Regards,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Thank you so much for the quick response! I’ll try out your helpful advice.

If you look at my website, http://farewelljon.com, you’ll see that I have four menu options: (1)Home, (2)Photography, (3)About, and (4)Contact. If you click on (3)About, you’ll get a ‘Shorter Version’ and a ‘Longer Version.’ Both of those are published posts, but I don’t want them to also appear under the blog page. Basically, I want to create an additional menu option: (5)Written Works, which displays all the posts except for the ‘Shorter Version’ and ‘Longer Version’ posts.

If you have any other suggestions, I’d be happy to hear them. Thank you again for your quick response. I’m really enjoying your hard work and commitment to your customers!

    Best,

    Jon

    Jon,

Posts naturally belong to the blog. There is an entity designed by the creators of WordPress to serve the purpose you are describing. This entity is actually a page (not to be confused with post). So I would say you should create pages (not posts) for the Longer and Shorter versions. To do that you basically just need to go to the ‘Pages’ item in your Admin Panel and select ‘Add new’. And then add them to the menu.

    Regards,
    Paul
